Title Description

These folktales were gathered from Aboriginal elders by members of a teachers' college in Northern Australia. They originate from a time in Australia before European settlement and provide a seldom seen view of aboriginal folktales that have traditionally been passed down only through the spoken word--"How The Kangaroo Got His Tail" explains how a fight between the kangaroo and a bandicoot resulted in the kangaroo having a tail; "The Thirsty Sand Frog" is the story of why the sand frog is so ashamed of himself that he hides in the sand during the day and only comes out at night; "How The Animals Were Divided" details what happened when the elders of the animal tribe decided to move the tribe to the other side of the river.
