Segment Description

The southwest Indians included the Navajo, the Hopi, and the Apache tribes. Although they lived in an arid region, they used irrigation techniques that allowed them to grow corn, beans, and squash. They lived in adobe homes that were several floors high. They often had herds of sheep. They were skilled craftsmen and became known for their clay pottery, baskets, turquoise jewelry, beadwork, and woolen rugs.
