Segment Description

When pressure between moving tectonic plates is released, the sudden displacement of rock causes the ground to tremble and quake, potentially causing tremendous destruction. 75 percent of the world's seismic energy is released at the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Japan sits on more than 100 seismic faults and experiences a major earthquake at least every 10 years.
