Title Description

Examines the emigration from the United States to Mexican-owned Texas and the development of Texas as a slave owning state. Also discusses Moses Austin’s Decision to allow settlers to own slaves, even after the Mexican Congress abolished slavery throughout the republic. Because of the general turmoil of the Mexican government, many tariffs, laws and Garrisons were ignored and soon, Austin’s 2000 law-abiding settlers, were outnumbered by swashbucklers and outlaws from the United States. Living history segments show life at a fort during the Mexican War, and examine Sam Houston’s victory over the Mexican Army. Finally, the recognition of the Lone Star republic and its eventual annexation by the U.S. is detailed.
